How we handle your data
A site about consent should be clear about its own. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and how to have it removed.
The short version
We collect your email address if you sign up to follow the investigation. We use anonymous analytics to understand how people find and use this site. We do not sell, share, or use your data for anything other than keeping you informed about this investigation. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
What we collect when you sign up
The newsletter form on this site asks for:
- Email address (required)
- Name (optional on some forms)
- Role (parent, teacher, P&C member, principal, other)
- State (NSW, VIC, QLD, etc.)
- School name (optional)
We collect role and state so that when we send updates, we can make them relevant to you. A P&C member in NSW needs different information than a teacher in Victoria. School name helps us understand which communities are paying attention, but it is never required and never published.
Where this data is stored
Your data is stored in Supabase, a database platform hosted in the ap-southeast-2 (Sydney) region. Your data stays in Australia. Supabase's privacy practices are documented at supabase.com/privacy.
Welcome email
When you sign up, you receive a single welcome email sent via Resend, a transactional email service. The email confirms your subscription and tells you what to expect. Resend processes your email address solely to deliver this message. Their privacy policy is at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) for anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand which pages people find most useful, how they arrive at the site, and whether the information is reaching the people it needs to.
When you first visit the site, a consent banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, no analytics data is collected. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage and remembered on future visits.
We do not use analytics data to identify individual visitors. We do not run advertising. We do not use remarketing or tracking pixels.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not share your data with third parties for marketing.
- We do not use your email for anything other than this investigation's updates.
- We do not store payment information (there is nothing to pay for).
- We do not collect data from children. This site is for parents, teachers, and policy makers.
Your rights
You can request the following at any time by emailing hello@algorithms.technology:
- Access: Ask what data we hold about you.
- Correction: Ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Ask us to delete all your data. We will do so within 7 days and confirm when complete.
- Unsubscribe: Ask to stop receiving emails. Future emails will also include an unsubscribe link.

Hosting
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages with DNS managed by Cloudflare. GitHub and Cloudflare may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, request times) as part of their normal operations. We do not access these logs.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and note the date of change. For significant changes, we will also notify subscribers by email.
A site about informed consent should practise it. If something here is unclear, email us and we will clarify it.
